HLSR terms of use
1. About the service
HLSR is an independent free launcher for Half-Life speedrunners on Windows and Linux, together with the hlsr.pro website and the api.hlsr.pro server. HLSR is not affiliated with Valve Corporation. Half-Life, Steam and related marks belong to Valve.
You can use the launcher without signing in. These terms are accepted when you sign in through Steam and tick the consent box, and they apply for as long as you have an HLSR profile. How data is handled is described in the privacy policy.
2. Your profile
An HLSR profile is linked to one Steam account. You are responsible for the security of your Steam account and of the computer where you are signed in. Valve's rules, including the Steam Subscriber Agreement, apply to your use of Steam.
Your name, avatar, status, pronouns, country, links and pinned record are visible to other HLSR users. Your name and avatar come from Steam; you add the rest yourself.
3. What is not allowed
Your name, avatar, status, links and reactions must not contain:
- insults, harassment, threats or discrimination of any kind;
- pornography, shocking images or calls to violence;
- promotion of anything prohibited by law, including banned symbols;
- impersonation of another person, the HLSR team or speedrun.com moderators;
- spam, advertising or scam links;
- other people's personal data without their consent.
You must also not interfere with the service: bypass rate limits or suspensions, forge play time, achievements or launcher requests, or exploit vulnerabilities instead of reporting them to contact@hlsr.pro.
4. Moderation
If a profile breaks these terms, HLSR administrators can:
- reset its status, or stop it from changing its status for 1, 7, 30, 90 or 365 days or permanently;
- show its Steam ID64 instead of its name until the name is changed in Steam;
- show the default Steam avatar instead of its avatar until the avatar is changed in Steam;
- suspend the account for 1, 7, 30, 90 or 365 days or permanently.
The measure depends on how serious the violation is. A severe violation can lead to a permanent suspension without warning. The reason and duration of each measure arrive as a notification in the launcher. While suspended, the profile is hidden from others, play time is not counted and online features are unavailable. Installing and launching games keeps working.
Evading a suspension with another Steam account also breaks these terms. Deleting the profile does not lift a suspension. If you disagree with a decision, write to contact@hlsr.pro; where possible, another administrator will review it.
5. Speedruns and records
HLSR does not verify runs or keep leaderboards. Records in the launcher come from speedrun.com, and category rules and run verification are decided by speedrun.com moderators. The default settings offered by the launcher do not guarantee that a run will be accepted.
6. Game builds and third-party services
The launcher downloads game builds, mods and tools, such as LiveSplit, from third-party sources. Their authors' licenses apply to them. Steam, speedrun.com, Discord, Twitch and YouTube operate under their own rules, and HLSR is not responsible for them.
7. Liability
HLSR is provided free of charge and "as is". We try to keep the service stable, but we do not guarantee that it is always available or free of errors. To the extent permitted by law, the HLSR team is not liable for lost saves, configs, demos or other files. Back up important files before installing, updating or repairing builds.
8. Stopping use
You can stop using HLSR or delete your profile in its settings at any time. We may change or discontinue features of the service and, for violations of these terms, restrict access to online features as described in section 4.
9. Changes to these terms
When these terms change, this page is updated along with its date and version. By continuing to use your profile after a change, you accept the new version. The current version is at hlsr.pro/terms/en/.
